The air is still and filled with an ecstasy of scents: earth, leaves, dew and the pervading delicate perfume of the flowers. This is a large painting and I wanted it to dominate the room and to become the centrepiece. To create an ambiance of the colour, beauty and re-birth of flowers so that every day is a new beginning. I used pinks of such intensity that the viewer is drawn into the painting to smell the blossoms, feel the tendrils and hear the birdsong. I spent weeks working on the contrast to make even the smallest stems and leave stand out to intrigue the eye with foliage and that dark unknown place below.
