Artist/Gallery notes
GALLERY: The face of Melbourne with patterns of buildings in yellows, oranges and violets. Constructed about abstract elements the representational aspects of the painting are broken up and fractured to present a uniformity across the canvas so that it is at the same time a view and an endless pattern. A repetition with no repeats. ARTIST: "I wanted to apply the same sort of marks and pattern of a Fred Williams landscape to the surface of a city. I didn’t want the painting to be purely abstract or representational. There is a tension between the flat background of buildings and the converging lines of perspective of the bridge in the foreground. This was difficult to resolve."
