??? Miles north of Perth is the town of Geraldton, from then on travelling North the landscape is dry and barren. If you turn off the North Western Coastal Highway you come to the isolated seaside town of Kalbarri. This settlement is on the beautiful estuary of the Murchison river. Upstream the river passes into magnificent gorges. This was painted from deep in the Z Bend Gorge. The surrounding landscape is a flat plateau, then suddenly you reach the vertical cliffs of the gorge, dropping several hundred metres. You can climb into the gorge down a narrow crevice in one corner of the bend. The floor of the gorge is made up of huge boulders and clear pools connected by a flowing stream.
