Artist/Gallery notes
I live in the Darling Ranges outside Perth on a commercial stonefruit orchard. This is the view from my studio window on the first wet day of Autumn in 1997. Perth has a long hot summer with clear cloudless blue skies for months on end. Then in the Autumn we start to get thundery showers, often associated with cyclone (hurricane) activity in the North of the State. Hot and humid weather usually precedes these thunderstorms and rain is a welcome relief. The kids will go out to enjoy getting wet. From my point of view the clouds suddenly create a sky full of interest and I love to paint them with their scale and aggressive movement. As the sun sets it creates a strange light on the orchard and we know that we will have rain tonight.
